Anodyne Therapy
Anodyne® Therapy Systems are infrared light therapy devices that, for the past 15 years, have been the choice of over half a million people looking for a noninvasive, drug-free way to live with less pain, stiffness or muscle spasm; or to increase their local circulation.
Anodyne Light Therapy work, as a complement to manual medicine, helps to reduce inflammation, pain and muscle spasms. It is commonly used for low back pain, sciatica, restless leg syndrome, wound healing, psoriasis, diabetic neuropathies and more.
The mechanism of action underlying pain relief associated with Anodyne®
Therapy/MIRE™ may be due, in part, to a combination of topical heat and an increased local release of nitric oxide that has been reported using the wavelength (890nm) of near-infrared light energy. The source of released nitric oxide may be endothelial cells or red blood cells, or both.
Nitric oxide has been studied for many years; however, interest has peaked in the last 10-15 years as a result of the discovery of the role of nitric oxide as a signaling mechanism in the human body. The researchers of this discovery were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1998.
Clinical research has linked nitric oxide with:
-
Increases in local circulation (vasodilation)
-
Reduction of pain
-
Reduction in inflammation
-
Angiogenesis
-
Collagen synthesis

The above photos were take at River Forest Health and Wellness. The patient was diagnosed with an infectious dermatitis by his dermatologist. The patient went through 12 weeks of topical treatment and debridement to the area, with the results in the picture on the left. He asked if there were any alternatives to this infectious dermatitis and the anodyne therapy was presented to the patient.
The patient was treated with the anodyne light therapy protocols of 2 treatments per day with the duration of 40 minutes each treatment. After 11 days, the open wounds were completely heeled.
Home Therapy
Home therapy units are available to rent with a prescription from a physician at River Forest Health and Wellness. This allows our patients to save time coming into the office and still get the benefits of the Anodyne Light Therapy. Proper training will be provided for all patients.
